UCI WorldTeam
The Aussie outfit - now known as Team Jayco AlUla - have gone by a number of different names over the years, but none have stuck as much as the name they launched with back in 2012, Orica GreenEDGE.
Acting as a de-facto Australian national team, they couldn’t have had a better start in the pro peloton as Simon Gerrans won the national road race in the team’s first race, before following it up with a Tour Down Under title and a Monument win at the 2012 Milano-San Remo. The emergence of the Yates twins, Simon and Adam, gave the team a more Grand Tour-oriented focus in recent years.
Despite Adam leaving the team in 2021, Simon has continued to pose a threat at three-week races and, during his time at the Aussie outfit, has bagged them an overall title at the Vuelta a España, a podium finish at the Giro d’Italia, and 10 stage wins across all three Grand Tours. The team has also tasted success in the sprints, with fastmen Michael Matthews, Dylan Groenewegen and Kaden Groves all adding to the team’s healthy 2022 win tally.
For 2023 the team have brought in a new title sponsor, the Saudi Arabian holiday resort AlUla. Their other new additions, Eddie Dunbar from Ineos, Chris Harper from Jumbo-Visma, and Filippo Zana from Bardiani have added a new level of depth to the squad.
