Puns aside, Lotte Kopecky has elevated herself to the highest echelon of womenâs cycling in recent weeks. At the UCI World Championships in Glasgow, she was truly in a league of her own. In this weekâs GCN Racing News Show, Dan Lloyd dissects the last two weeks of wins that Kopecky has taken
Of course, lots of attention was paid to the fantastic womenâs road race, which was certainly the big event of the programme this week. Nevertheless, Kopeckyâs brilliance was beyond just her emphatic and well-deserved road race victory, as she also took home multiple gold medals in the track programme. In total, the Belgian took home three rainbow jerseys from Scotland.
Beyond the womenâs road race and Kopeckyâs exploits, there was still much to talk about including Josh Tarlingâs (Great Britain) breakthrough podium in the menâs time trial, just behind Filippo Ganna (Italy) and the winner Remco Evenepoel (Belgium). The women's time trial was won by American ChloĂ© Dygert ahead of Grace Brown of Australia in a close contest.
In North America, the NCL was back in action with the second stop in Denver, Colorado. The team-based criterium contest saw the Denver Disruptors take the fight to the rest of the field. Nevertheless, the Miami Nights were able to use the strength of the womenâs squad and particularly the closing speed of Paola Muñoz to take the win. The series concludes next week in Atlanta.
Lastly, Dan touches upon the mountain bike XCO titles that were also sorted on the weekend, with a pair of Ineos Grenadiers â Tom Pidcock (Great Britain) and Pauline Ferrand-PrĂ©vot (France) â taking the titles on the dirt, as well as the round-up of track results from the end of the track programme in Glasgow.
Coming up in the world of racing, the menâs peloton has full focus on the run into the Vuelta a España which will take place next month. This week, the Vuelta a Burgos, Tour of Denmark and Tour du Limousin will all run concurrently on GCN+ starting on Tuesday. Thursday will see the start of the Arctic Race of Norway while Sunday is the BEMER Cyclassic and the start of the Tour de l'Avenir. Territory restrictions will apply.
