Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) is currently leading the general classification at the Giro d’Italia with an advantage of 6:41 after 15 stages in Italy.

Pogačar had already put big margins into his GC rivals but that 15th stage - the queen stage - saw him put his rivals to the sword and effectively put the race to bed with a week remaining.

Pogačar, who now has four stage wins to his name, leads the Giro by a whopping six minutes and 41 seconds over Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) , with Dani Martínez (Bora-Hansgrohe) a further 15 seconds back.

The Slovenian and pre-race favourite took the pink leader’s jersey on stage 2 with a commanding win on the summit finish to Oropa, dropping all of his rivals to seize his first maglia rosa. He then extended his lead with a stage-winning performance in the stage 7 time trial, putting over a minute and a half into most of his rivals. The following day, on stage 8, he won again, this time sprinting to victory at the summit finish of Prati di Tivo.

After some big GC action in the first week, save for the gravel stage which didn't to be as decisive as it could have been, week 2 was a quieter affair until the TT and the queen stage. The summit finish on stage 10 didn't offer up many big changes, the biggest shuffle coming from Cian Uijtdebroeks' (Visma-Lease a Bike) abandon whilst he was in fifth overall.

However, the second week rounded out with two key stage and big GC movement, first with the stage 14 TT and then the queen stage in the mountains. Pogačar settled for second in the time trial but added over a minute to his advantage, as Thomas nipped ahead of Martínez into second overall. Stage 15, however, was where the race looked to have ended as any sort of contest for the pink jersey, as Pogačar soared clear put another three minutes into his rivals.

Ahead of stage 16, Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious) leads the young rider classification, three-time stage winner Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) tops the sprint points standings, and Pogačar is leading the mountains classification, though the jersey will be on the shoulders of Simon Geschke (Cofidis). Ineos Grenadiers' strong time trial performance on stage 14 saw them reclaim the team classification from Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale.
