The BRK-1 is designed for mechanics

Park Tool has expanded its range of tool kits with the addition of the BRK-1, which it says is its “ultimate mobile mechanic tool kit”.

Geared towards professional mechanics or enthusiasts who help out at local events, Parktool says that it has equipped the kit with everything needed to either adjust, replace, diagnose, or fix the majority of components on a bike. To ensure it meets these needs, the 100 tools, which are all “professional grade”, were selected by Park Tool’s professional mechanics and are housed in the BX-3 Rolling Big Blue Box.

A staple of Park Tool’s offering, the BX-3 has been around for a number of years now, having been released in 2018, and is also designed with professional mechanics in mind. The box is designed to be manoeuvrable through in-built wheels and an extendable handle, while also providing pallets on either side and custom-designed loops and pockets to store all of the tools. It is essentially designed to keep things orderly so that you don’t lose anything, a frustration we’ve all gone through at some point, although it still requires organisation on the part of the user.

While only now officially breaking cover, the BRK-1 was on display at the recent iceBike show along with multiple other new tools that are in the offing. Some of these are still under wraps, but one other product from the show has also now been officially released alongside the tool kit in the form of the 1971 Clamp Adapter for D-shaped Seatposts - a fairly wordy name, but we appreciate the simplicity of saying exactly what it is.

Go back ten years and a tool like this wouldn’t have been viable as D-shaped seatposts were rare, but now they’re used frequently across the industry. The adapter is designed to clip onto the clamps used on most Park Tool work stands. It essentially converts one of the two clamping jaws into a flat profile, rather than rounded, to accommodate the flatter side of the D shape.

While it’s possible to use a standard fully rounded clamp profile, Park Tool says that this “would cause a less-than-ideal fit”, with the D-shaped adapter designed to provide a solution.
